Angie's New Sunglasses

Prescription sunglasses delivered for under $30? Sounds suspicious but Angie now has a new pair from Zenni Optical.

It took almost three weeks to arrive but they seem to be the right prescription and do the job. If you're looking for a backup pair of glasses, this is a great way to save a lot of money.

Galion

When we visited my grandparents' house in preparation for the estate sale, we had to rent a U-Haul trailer. We think it was fitting that the only one left had "Holland, MI" on the side with tulips and a windmill since Grandma was Dutch.

Given the whole "the front door is the back door" (and vice versa) debate, here's a shot of the house with both.

Atlanta

Atlanta skyline over Centennial Olympic park. The old AT&T Wireless headquarters was next door. I wonder if this was the inspiration for the "bars" commercials.

Ted's, as in Ted Turner:

This is CNN.

MARTA. Check out the stone.

New Menu at Velvet Tango Room

Last Monday, we went to Velvet Tango Room and experienced their new menu. Old classics are still there and new classics have been added.

VTR has apparently been filmed for The Best Thing I Ever Ate on Food Network. Great news for them but possibly means that the long waits will be getting longer.

Also, while we were there, we ran into John Ettinger and his wife. He is a food critic and they were visiting various cities in the Midwest.

Cahill's Cheese

Found this at the West Side Market in Cleveland. Of course, we had to buy it!

It looks like you can buy this and other varieties online at Cahill's Cheese.

Developing Film with Coffee

I decided to try developing film with the Caffenol-C process (otherwise known as coffee + vitamin C).

Here are a few pictures of getting the chemicals ready and me agitating the tank:

This is the developer all mixed up. Everyone says it smells unbelievably horrible but it really smells like cheap instant coffee.

And the results? It has that 1940s grainy look to it. See for yourself:

Happy 2nd Anniversary To Us!

2 years ago:

On our way out to dinner. We went to Lago and then later went to The Velvet Tango Room for after dinner drinks and piano music.

Check back later to see what we got each other for our "cotton" anniversary.

Princeton, New Jersey

We visited Princeton while we were on the East Coast. Here's two shots of Princeton University:

Here's a shot of my old high school. Times sure have changed. They've removed the Fallout Shelter sign and replaced it with a No Smoking sign (being a holiday, I didn't see if the students still stand on the sidewalk and smoke).

And what trip to Princeton would be complete without Hoagie Haven?

New York (Little Italy)

Final set from New York.

Riding the subway:

Little Italy:

Dinner at Ristorante SPQR. Excellent Caesar salad and martini! I was sold on the special when it included two words: lobster and flambé.

New York (continued)

Just a couple of shots from New York (and surrounding area).

We stayed at the Hilton Newark Penn Station as it is much cheaper than staying in the city and you can still be in midtown in about 10 minutes.

Playing with the new fisheye lens (Bower 8mm) just outside of New York Penn Station:
